Catwalk

Pugh's aesthetic is so distinct and dark. His Autumn/Winter 2012 collection started with drama - grey leaves exploding from the ceiling out and down on to the ground to create the catwalk itself. The show has a gothic theme running through it, with the asymmetrical coats in black, and other items accessorised with long black leather gloves.

I am really inspired by the Chanel Haute Couture S/S 2013 collection, led by the beautiful Cara Delevingne. The theme is "a gothic dream, a midsummer night" based in an enchanted forest. Chanel creates a mysterious new gothic classy feeling. Also the Gothic meets 19th century is shown by the makeup and hair. Peter Phillips gives the models sport a care free do, however the main focal point being the eyes, the classic smoky eye was skilfully smudged to perfection. It created a complex design around the lower eyelid and external corner, which seems to elongate and add texture to the eye-lashes. To create that Gothic vibe, irregularly cut black lace was applied around the lower part and external corner of the eye, on top of the black kohl. Lots of black mascara was added to create fuller lashes. Black, Bold and Beautiful. The natural complexion was brought to life by a subtle hint of rose blush on the cheeks and pink iridescent lipstick.
I found out what makeup was used on the models skin and eyes-

On the Skin-
  • Vitalumiere Aqua Fluid
  • Eclat Lumiere
  • Correcteur Perfection
  • Poudre Universelle Libre
On the Eyes-
  • Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Noir Intense (N°88)
  • Le Volume de Chanel Mascara in Black (N°10) – new
  • Stylo Eyeshadow in Black Stream (N°57) – coming Summer 2013
  • Recourbe Cils de Chanel Lash Curler

The hair on the other hand was also a big part of the look. Styled by Sam McKnight, the models hair was parted on one side and put up in small back-combed buns, topknots or plaits, which created a sort of organised but messy hair-do. With a matte velvety texture, it perfectly suited the rich fabrics of the clothes, accompanied by the black and white feather hats, which were individually made to complement each models face.
The Chanel Spring Summer 2013 make-up is not an everyday look, but will certainly add drama to a chic haute couture gown.

Here is a video of behind the scenes of the show itself- I'm LOVING this.

The not so Bloody Mary

A few days ago i watched the film  Bloody Mary 2006 directed by Richard Valentine. The opening of the film begins with screaming noises coming from a psychiatric hospital, creating an unwelcoming, haunting atmosphere. It is not a scary film, however quite entertaining, and you could say its almost "soooo-bad-its-good." The film flips to the first scene of 5 young nurses who should be really doing something better with their time, (like caring for the patients), rather than staring down an underground shaft, waiting for their naked friend to have her eyes gorged out, which seems to be the theme that runs through the whole film. Mary seems to have an insatiable appetite for eyeballs, but the film never quite states why, or what she plans to do with them. The staff at the psychiatric hospital are stranger than the patients, and only seem to work minimum hours, hence why the rest keep running around in tunnels, talking to a broken mirror.
The fake sister of one of the victims turns up, and involves the use of the most useless cop on the planet, to help with the search, but is as much use, as Mary's collection of jarred eyeballs.  Oh and did i happen to mention, Mary is an ex patient of the psychiatric hospital in the 1970s, who was obsessed by her reflection. She escaped into the tunnels ad starved to death, only to return in vengeful-ghost form and hang out with the random creepy prisoner whose purpose is never actually made clear.

I would like to say that there is a lot of blood and gore in this movie, but what there was cleaned up quicker than Mary was ono her next victim, with no one seeming to notice that anything was going on. So basically, other than unrealistic characters following a very lame plot, the film is watchable, (just).

Ill keep you in suspense as to what happens next, but don't blame me if your left feeling bitterly disappointed, that Mary did not murder the lot. (This would be a much more, pleasurable ending for me, incase they ever crop up in another film).

I believe in Mary Worth

Mary, Mary, Mary

I am really enthusiastic about starting this project, especially as it is more fashion based. The fact that i have to create two looks for a music video, based on a gothic urban legend excites me, as there is a wide range of experimentation i can do.
I chose the urban myth "Bloody Mary" because i wanted to use a woman, as all the other myths seem to portray the criminal as a man. Over the years, there have been many perceptions about the character of Mary, and i will find this to be a challenge to my creativity. Mary has been documented over the years to some as old, evil, and to others just a figment of their imagination, so through my blog, i hope to bring Mary to life again through my own eyes.

Urban Myth Bloody Mary

When I was about 9 years old, I went to a friend's for a birthday/slumber party. There were about 10 other girls there. About midnight, we decided to play Mary Worth. Some of us had never heard of this so one of the girls told the story.
Mary Worth lived a long time ago. She was a very beautiful young girl. One day she had a terrible accident that left her face so disfigured that nobody would look at her. She had not been allowed to see her own reflection after this accident for fear that she would lose her mind. Before this, she had spent long hours admiring her beauty in her bedroom mirror.
One night, after everyone had gone to bed, unable to fight the curiousity any longer, she crept into a room that had a mirror. As soon as she saw her face, she broke down into terrible screams and sobs. It was at this moment that she was so heartbroken and wanted her old reflection back, that she walked into the mirror to find it, vowing to disfigure anybody that came looking for her in the mirror.
After hearing this story, which was told very scarily, we decided to turn out all of the lights and try it. We all huddled around the mirror and starting repeating "Mary Worth, Mary Worth, I believe in Mary Worth". About the seventh time we said it one of the girls that was in front of the mirror started screaming and trying to push her way back away from the mirror. She was screaming so loud that my friends mom came running into the room. She quickly turned on the lights and found this girl huddled in the corner screaming. She turned her around to see what the problem and saw these long fingernail scratches running down her right cheek. I will never forget her face as long as I live!!
